Tropical Storm Elsa will accelerate northeastward along the Atlantic Seaboard, exiting coastal New England late Friday. Additional rainfall associated with Elsa could reach 3 to 5 inches or more in the Atlantic coastal plain. Meanwhile, a new storm system will slowly cross the northern Plains and Midwest, generating widespread showers and thunderstorms. Five-day rainfall totals could reach 2 to 4 inches or more across the southern half of the Corn Belt.
