A slow-moving cold front crossing the nation’s mid-section will progress southeastward, reaching the mid-South and mid-Atlantic by the end of the week. Five-day rainfall could total 1 to 3 inches or more across the east-central Plains, mid-South, and Midwest, with showers and thunderstorms eventually reaching the middle and northern Atlantic States. However, rain will largely bypass the southern Plains, as well as Montana, North Dakota, and northern and central Minnesota.
