Hot weather will continue to grip the northern Plains and much of the West, with a gradual expansion of above-normal temperatures as the week progresses. Late in the week, temperatures could reach 100°F as far east as the central Plains and the western Corn Belt. In contrast, relatively cool weather will prevail in the Northeast. Meanwhile, little or no rain will fall during the next 5 days in several regions, including the Pacific Coast States, the northern and central Plains, and an area stretching from the southern Corn Belt to the mid-Atlantic.
