Governor Gretchen Whitmer is honoring Michigan’s wheat farmers by declaring July as Wheat Month.
More than 5,000 farmers in the state produce about 40 million bushels of wheat annually on more than 500,000 acres of farmland in all but a few counties in Michigan.
The Michigan Wheat Program says production is expected to be up by about 23 percent this year with yields averaging about 80 bushels per acre, double the national average.
