Unseasonal freezing temperatures in Brazil right now are an indication of a La Nina weather pattern that US farmers should be keeping an eye on.

Brownfield meteorologist Greg Soulje says that suggests a cool, wet fall for the Midwest.

“So bottom line, there may be a couple of cracks at some early season cold into those northern and eastern corn belt locales. And more and more as we get deeper into the mid to late fall and winter season, the likelihood of an increasingly active and moisture laden pattern.”

He says while those fall rains would be a nice recharge for the soil, it will likely increase harvest delays.
