Blazing heat across the northern Plains will persist through Wednesday, following by a marked cooling trend. Until the heat wave breaks, hot weather will extend into the western Corn Belt. During the second half of the week, lingering heat will be relegated to the South, while below-normal temperatures will cover the Midwest and Northeast. Meanwhile, parts of the West will remain hot, with 100-degree readings expected through Saturday as far north as eastern Washington.
