USDA’s nominee for Undersecretary of Farm Production and Conservation has pledged to respond quickly to drought concerns.
During a Senate Agriculture Committee confirmation hearing Monday, Minnesota Democrat Amy Klobuchar asked Robert Bonnie if he would prioritize drought relief for farmers and ranchers if confirmed. Bonnie responded, “absolutely.”
In an interview with Brownfield before the hearing, Klobuchar talked about legislation she’s introduced that would improve USDA’s ability to quickly authorize emergency haying and grazing on CRP lands in response to drought and other natural disasters.
