The European Union is extending tariffs on U.S. biodiesel through 2026. The tariffs began in 2009, and notice of the extension was published Monday.
The European Biodiesel Board asked for the tariff extension in June of last year, saying if the tariffs lapsed, it would cause a price drop in the EU and a surge of biodiesel imports from the U.S. at artificially low prices. The European Commission says without the tariffs, their biodiesel industry would be faced with increased unfair competition from the U.S.
