Negligible precipitation will fall during the next several days from the Pacific Coast to the northern Plains and upper Great Lakes region, perpetuating drought impacts. In the Northwest, extreme heat will persist into the weekend, followed by a marked cooling trend. On the northern Plains, however, a few days of cool weather will be followed by the return of above-normal temperatures. Meanwhile, the interaction between the Southwestern monsoon circulation and a cold front will contribute to widespread showers and thunderstorms across roughly the southeastern half of the U.S.
