USDA is increasing benefits for people who are enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) starting in October for fiscal year 2022.
According to USDA, the department re-evaluated its Thrifty Food Plan, which calculates SNAP benefits. The agency says the 2018 Farm Bill and President Biden’s executive order directed them to conduct a data-driven review on food prices, dietary guidance, food nutrients and what Americans eat.
As a result, the revised plan includes more fish and red and orange vegetables and other food according to new dietary guidelines.
