Tropical Storm Nicholas should make landfall Tuesday across the upper Texas Gulf Coast. Nicholas could briefly achieve hurricane intensity before moving inland. Regardless of further development, Nicholas’ primary threat will be heavy rain, which could total 8 to 16 inches or more in coastal Texas and parts of southern Louisiana, leading to widespread flooding. Other hazards in coastal Texas related to Nicholas may include a 3- to 5-foot storm surge and local wind damage.
