An agronomist for the Western Corn Belt says despite growing season challenges growers are optimistic about harvest.

Tim Stanek covers Northeast Nebraska for Stine and says farmers are about two weeks away from starting harvest. “In the early season beans, we’ve seen a little better pod fill and in our later season, it’s waiting to see what happens for seed size and how those fill out,” Stanek says. “Our corn, we didn’t really have a lot of disease issues and I think our standability should be pretty good.”

He tells Brownfield growers either faced drought or excessive rain through parts of Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota and says it’s too soon to speculate how good the yields will be.
