A southwest Minnesota farmer is harvesting corn earlier than normal because of poor stalk strength.

Chris Hill of Brewster says rains were hit and miss most of the growing season.

“Then August came and we got a lot of rain. It was too little too late for the corn crop, and that’s why harvest is starting a little bit early. The corn has some problems in it with the stalks standing up straight.”

He tells Brownfield the crop is extremely variable.
