The incoming president of the National Corn Growers Association is seeing the effects of drought as harvest gets going on his farm.
Chris Edgington of Saint Ansgar in north-central Iowa says despite spotty rains this summer, total moisture for the growing season ended up about eight to ten inches short of normal.
“The yields that have been coming out so far (I’m) pleasantly surprised. There are some bean fields that have some disease issues, white mold seems to be the most prevalent, and that’s hitting the yield pretty hard.
