Southeastern rain will continue for the next several days, with the focus for heavy precipitation gradually shifting eastward toward the southern Atlantic Coast. Five-day rainfall totals could reach 2 to 5 inches or more from western Florida into the southern Appalachians. Surrounding areas, extending as far north as the middle Atlantic and Great Lakes States, will experience occasional showers.
In contrast, dry weather will accompany summer-like heat across the nation’s mid-section. Late in the week, however, cooler weather and beneficial showers should begin to overspread the northern Plains.
