A recent report by the USDA’s Economic Research Service says dairy consumption is continuing its trend higher.

Americans consumed 655 pounds of all dairy products in 2020, up two pounds from the previous year and set another record for the report which began in 1975.

Michael Dykes, head of the International Dairy Foods Association, says despite pandemic challenges to all parts of the supply chain in 2020—including the near-overnight loss of the foodservice sector—per capita dairy consumption continued to surge largely because of growth in ice cream, butter and yogurt.

Ice cream consumption for the year grew by four percent, while yogurt was up three percent and butter was up two percent.
