A Western Cornbelt grower says this year has been one of the most varied corn yields he’s ever seen.

Western Missouri farmer Mendell Elson says he farms about a 60-40 split between hill and river bottom ground. He tells Brownfield fields with good drainage did well but…

“Where tile was needed, or [in] low lying areas, [it was] virtually drowned out,” he said. “So, it had a very significant impact on the total yields.”

Elson said massive rain events caused his corn yields to range from 170 bushels to well over 200 bushels an acre…

“One of the big ones was about a 12-inch rain that we had early there in June that, I mean literally, killed over 100-acres of our corn crop, just totally drowned it out,” he said.
