Chilly conditions will linger for the next several days across the South, East, and lower Midwest, resulting in the possibility of frost and freezes as far south as the northern Mississippi Delta and the Tennessee Valley. Meanwhile, a weak storm system crossing the South will produce some rain in the Gulf Coast region. Storm-total rainfall could reach 1 to 2 inches or more in coastal Texas and peninsular Florida. Farther west, mild air will gradually spread eastward, allowing temperatures to rebound to above-normal levels by week’s end as far east as the mid-South and Midwest.
