A group of more than 90 farm, environmental, and labor groups is asking Congress to make major shifts in dairy policy. They have signed on to a letter by the National Family Farm Coalition seeking what they call price floors based on the scale of operation that allows family-scale farmers to cover costs of operation. They also support production management mechanisms, a form of supply management to re-balance U.S. dairy supply with demand and scaling down what they call industrial-scale mega-dairies that contribute most to overproduction.
