Windy conditions across the north-central U.S. will subside Thursday, as a storm system crossing southern Canada drifts northward. However, showers along the storm’s trailing cold front could result in rainfall totals of an inch or more during the next 24 hours in several areas, including the eastern Ohio and Tennessee Valleys and parts of the Northeast. In southern Florida, late-week rainfall could total 1 to 4 inches. Meanwhile, scattered showers will briefly return across the Northwest, starting on Thursday.
