Direct cash cattle markets are quiet. Asking prices are $138 live with bids at $137 live and $217 dressed. More trade is expected after the light activity Tuesday in the south at $135 to $136 live, up $1 to $2 on the week, with some business in the north at mostly $214 dressed, $4 higher. Some of those northern dressed cattle were for deferred delivery early next month.

At the Winter Livestock Auction in La Junta, Colorado, compared to the previous week, steer calves were steady to $2 higher, while heifer calves weighing less than 550 pounds were mostly steady in a light test, 550-to-650-pound heifer calves were $2 to $3 higher, and heifer calves weighing more than 650 pounds were steady.
