Farmers and ranchers are assessing the impact of wildfires in western and central Kansas.

Scarlett Hagins with the Kansas Livestock Association says about 400,000 acres have burned, destroying homes, outbuildings, fencing, and hundreds of cattle.

“I think the immediate thing of course is getting the livestock they have to a better place. A place that has fence (and) has either green grass or a place that they can be fed.”

She tells Brownfield once that’s done, producers will begin documenting losses.
