Very warm, dry weather will prevail into next week from the southern half of the Plains into the Southeast. Farther north, however, multiple disturbances crossing the northern U.S. will deliver periods of rain and snow. Some of the heaviest snow should fall on December 26-27 in the upper Great Lakes region. In addition, bitterly cold air will lurk across the nation’s northern tier; early next week, temperatures could fall to -20°F or below in parts of Montana and North Dakota.
