At the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, live and feeder cattle ended the day lower, feeders led the way down on the higher corn. February live cattle closed $1.10 lower at $137.82 and April live cattle closed $1.52 lower at $142.67. March feeder cattle closed $3.17 lower at $166.35 and April feeder cattle closed $2.70 lower at $169.77.
It was another relatively quiet day for direct cash cattle trade activity. There were a few scattered bids at $220 dressed in parts of Nebraska. Asking prices were around $140 live in the South. Significant trade volume will likely be delayed until midweek or later.
At the close, at the Joplin Regional Stockyards in Missouri, compared to the most recent sale, feeder steers were $3 to $6 higher, except heavy five-weight steers which were $12 higher. Feeder heifers were $2 to $5 higher with the most gain on heifers over 725 pounds.
