A farm management analyst is not surprised USDA raised its final corn and soybean production estimates for 2021.

Kent Thiesse with MinnStar Bank in south-central Minnesota tells Brownfield a common response from farmers when asked about yields this fall was “better than expected.”

“Now, maybe they were down because of the drought or whatever, but they weren’t down as far as they thought they were going to be. So the fact that production numbers are up is not surprising.”

USDA pegs 2021 soybean production at a record 4.44 billion bushels, with corn seen at a near-record just over 15 billion bushels.
