A new surge of much colder air has arrived, with a rapid movement from the northern Plains and Great Lakes region, south and eastward over the next couple of days. In contrast, mild weather will prevail throughout the week in the West, while any sharply colder air that reaches the High Plains will be quickly replaced by windy, but milder-than-normal conditions. Mostly dry weather will accompany the Western warmth, aside from occasional rain and snow showers from the Pacific Northwest to the northern Rockies.
