Michigan’s potato growers can now vote to continue the state’s checkoff program for another five years.

The Michigan Potato Industry Commission was established in 1970 and currently assesses producers 4 ½ cents, per hundredweight and 1 ½ cents for the first handler (shipper) on potatoes grown in the state.

Funds are used for research, promotion, and expansion of the industry.

More than 50 percent of the votes cast by growers, representing more than 50 percent of the total hundredweight represented on the cast ballots, must approve it by February 11th of it to continue.
