January weather has been widely variable in Arkansas.

The USDA says that on average, it’s been a little warmer and wetter than normal, but occasional swings to cold temperatures have had an impact in some areas and have stressed livestock, with increased hay feeding in parts of the state due to those cold temperatures killing forages.

Most of the state has adequate to surplus soil moisture levels.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume in April.
