Winter wheat conditions have improved in Missouri during January.

The USDA says those conditions have been helped by slightly above average precipitation and only slightly below average temperatures.

49% of Missouri’s winter wheat crop is rated good to excellent, up 5% from the end of December, with 46% called fair, down 4%, and just 5% is in poor shape.

Most of the state has adequate soil moisture, but the percentage for subsoil did decline, which could be an issue for spring planting, depending on how the rest of the winter progresses.
