Winter weather is creating some challenges in Iowa.

The USDA says the year started relatively mild, but a mid-month winter storm and colder temperatures have caused respiratory issues for some cattle, limited grazing and led to increased hay feeding, and is making lambing and calving difficult for some producers.

Still, an overall lack of moisture and snow cover are reportedly causing field erosion in parts of the state and are leading to concerns about soil moisture being replenished ahead of spring planting.
