The amount of U.S. corn used for ethanol production moved higher in December 2021.
The USDA says corn for ethanol use was 485.816 million bushels, up 4% from November as ethanol margins shot higher, encouraging production, and 13% from December 2020, when the industry was still being hit by demand concerns caused by the pandemic.
The January 2022 numbers might not be as friendly as December 2021, with margins contracting as ethanol demand slows down.
