The USDA is giving dairy farmers an additional five weeks to enroll in the Dairy Margin Coverage program for 2022.
USDA says enrollment is currently less than half of that for the 2021 program year. Farmers last year received $1.2 billion in margin payments to help offset low margins and high feed costs.
A Supplemental DMC program will also offer small and mid-sized producers who recently increased production $580 million in retroactive payments for 2021, 2022, and 2023.
