Wet, cold conditions have persisted in most of Illinois this month.
The USDA says the average daily temperature has been nearly a degree below normal, well below freezing, while precipitation has topped two inches, more than an inch above usual levels.
That precipitation has left 40% of the state’s topsoil and 35% of subsoil with surplus moisture levels, which could lead to issues during spring planting.
The USDA’s weekly crop progress and weather reports resume in April.
