March 1, the first day of meteorological spring, should feature relatively tranquil weather. A notable exception will extend from the Pacific Northwest to the northern Rockies, where stormy weather and rising temperatures could spark flooding, especially west of the Cascades. Windy conditions will accompany the Northwestern storminess. Farther east, periods of light snow will occur during the next 5 days across the remainder of the northern U.S., while mild, dry weather will stretch from the southern half of the Plains into the Southeast.
