An active weather pattern will return across parts of the western and central U.S., following a briefly lull. For example, rain and snow showers will develop across the Northwest on Tuesday, eventually shifting southward before reaching the central Plains by mid-week. During the second half of the week, parts of the Midwest will also receive snow, while heavy showers and locally severe thunderstorms may affect the South. Five-day rainfall totals could reach 2 to 5 inches or more in the Southeast, excluding Florida’s peninsula.
