A moderate direct cash cattle trade is developing. Live deals in the South are at $138, steady with last week’s weighted averages. Bids are at $138 live and $220 dressed in other parts of cattle country. Asking prices are at $142 live in the South and $224 dressed in the North. Look for more business to develop over the balance of the week.
Boxed beef is mixed at midday on light to moderate demand for light offerings. Choice is $.49 lower at $257.59 and Select is $.51 higher at $250.78. The Choice/Select spread is $6.81.
At the Hub City Livestock Auction in South Dakota, compared to last week steers 600 to 700 pounds were unevenly steady and steers 701 to 950 pounds were steady to $3 higher.
