Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig is troubled by the Mexican government moving toward a phase out of genetically modified corn.
Naig recently returned from a trade mission to Mexico and tells Brownfield the GM corn ban was a significant focus.
“That would ultimately result in a disruption to us getting corn into Mexico. Now it’s not resulting in disruptions today, but as we look to the future and look to seed companies bringing new innovations to the American farmer, this is a great challenge.”
In late 2020, Mexico’s president issued a decree to enact a ban on genetically modified corn for human consumption by 2024.
