The USDA reports soil moisture supplies declined in South Dakota from February to March.

At the end of the month, topsoil moisture is considered 24% very short, 40% short and 35% adequate, a notable decline from February as farmers continue to battle drought conditions across most of the state.

Despite dry conditions, the state’s winter wheat crop saw slight improvement month over month with a USDA rating of 58% fair and 26% good to excellent.
