Highly pathogenic avian influenza has been detected in three more states. The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service confirmed the virus in a commercial layer chicken flock in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, a non-commercial backyard flock in Utah County, Utah, and two non-commercial backyard flocks in Idaho.
APHIS is working closely with state animal health officials on a joint incident response. All birds on the properties will be depopulated to prevent the spread of the disease and a 6.2-mile control zone will be established around the premises.
USDA reports the findings to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and international trading partners.
