The pace of spring wheat planting is a little ahead of normal in South Dakota.
USDA’s latest crop progress report says as of Sunday, 25 percent of the crop is planted compared to the five-year average of 22 percent.
Emergence is slightly behind normal at 1 percent.
Oat planting progressed to 27 percent and emergence is at 3 percent.
Most of the winter wheat crop is rated either poor or fair, and dryness continues to be a concern with 60 percent of topsoil moisture and 62 percent of subsoil moisture rated short to very short.
