Direct cash cattle trade is at a standstill with the bulk of the week’s business wrapped up. Southern live deals for the week were at $140, fully steady with last week’s business. Northern dressed deals were at mostly $232, about $2 higher than the bulk of last week’s business.
Boxed beef is lower at midday on light demand for moderate offerings. Choice is $1.11 lower at $261.49 and Select is $2.08 lower at $248.98. The Choice/Select spread is $12.51.
At the Mobridge Livestock Auction in South Dakota, there was a large offering featuring many packages and a handful of loads of fall calves, as well as loads and packages of home-raised and backgrounded yearlings, including a string of backgrounded steers.
