Planting progress is picking up steam in South Dakota, but remains behind the average pace.

The USDA says 11 percent of the state’s corn is planted, well behind 60 percent last year and 32 percent for the five-year average.

Only five percent of soybeans have been planted, running behind last year’s 29 percent and behind the 12 percent average.

Sixty-three percent of the spring wheat is planted with 28 percent emerged.
