The president of the Michigan Corn Growers Association says he’s been able to plant about a quarter of his corn crop in West Michigan.

Randy Poll tells Brownfield starting the season wet followed by a rapid warm-up has led to some soil crusting issues.

“The heat was great but the ground turned like concrete so fast because it was drying so fast and so hard,” he shares.

Poll says he needs about two more weeks to get everything planted and while he bought inputs early…

“If you just want to multiply everything by three, that’s probably a pretty good rule of thumb for prices.”

He says navigating volatile markets with current inflation issues has also been challenging this year.
