U.S. red meat and poultry supplies moved higher in April.
The USDA says the total amount of red meat in cold storage jumped by 16% to 1.089 billion pounds, with an 18% rise in beef to 531.728 million and 16% increase for pork to 530.244 million, indicating slower demand following a year-to-year decrease in production.
Poultry in cold storage was 1% higher at 1.104 billion pounds with a 7% gain in chicken supplies to 770.320 million cancelling out an 8% loss for turkey at 331.839 million pounds.
