A system developing over the south-central U.S. will result in substantial drought relief across portions of the central and southern Plains. 

Heavy showers and locally severe thunderstorms will gradually shift eastward across the South, producing 5day rainfall totals of 2 to 6 inches from the east-central and southeastern Plains to the southern Appalachians. 

Rain will also return across the Corn Belt, though most areas will receive less than 2 inches. 

In contrast, dry weather will prevail through week’s end from California to the southern Rockies.
