Across the Corn Belt, cooler-than-normal weather accompanies a variable cloud cover. Early Friday, a few showers dot the middle and upper Mississippi Valley. Friday’s Midwestern high temperatures will remain mostly below 80°F, maintaining a relatively slow pace of summer crop germination and growth. U.S. corn emergence, at 78% on June 5, remains slightly slower than 2011 and 2013, when 79% of the crop had emerged on that date.
On the Plains, overnight thunderstorms peppered areas from northern Texas to Nebraska, slowing winter wheat harvesting and other fieldwork.
