A strong ridge of high pressure will continue to deliver significantly above-normal temperatures across much of the country, although chilly conditions will linger through mid-week in the Northwest. The focus for extreme heat, currently over the nation’s mid-section, will briefly shift eastward, with mid-week high temperatures expected to approach 100°F as far north as the eastern Corn Belt. Thereafter, heat will return across the High Plains and neighboring regions, with late-week temperatures possibly reaching 100°F as far north as Montana.
