The USDA says an unusually hot week swept through much of Indiana drying out formerly soggy fields, which left some counties in need of rain.
The latest crop progress report says 96 percent of the state’s corn crop has emerged, compared to 89 percent last year.
Ninety-six percent of soybeans are planted, compared to the five-year average of 92 percent. Eighty-nine percent of the crop has emerged.
Forty-seven percent of the state’s winter wheat crop is mature, compared to 52 percent last year.
