Additional information has now been released regarding a fire which broke out early Wednesday morning at a home located just outside the community of Grundy Center.

At around 1:30 a.m., fire departments from Grundy Center, Reinbeck, and Holland were called to a home located on D Avenue, just off State Highway 14.

When fire crews arrived on the scene, they found the garage and living area of the home above it completely engulfed in flames.

The owners of the home initially awoke to smoke and flames, rushed to get out of the house, and then called 9-1-1.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the fire may have  started in the garage area.

The garage was completely destroyed by the fire with heavy smoke, fire and water damage being reported throughout the remainder of the home.

It took firefighters several hours to bring the fire under control with local fire crews remaining on the scene until late morning.

The state fire marshal has been called in to try to determine the exact cause of the fire.
