The Ames Fire Department was called to an apartment fire on Monday evening on the  city’s west side.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., local fire crews were summoned to a reported fire in progress at 4210 Lincoln Swing.  Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke coming from a single apartment.

The apartment complex where the fire started was evacuated after the fire was discovered.  Firefighters were able to quickly locate the fire, which was successfully contained to one room.

The occupant of the apartment where the fire started was not at home when the blaze broke out.

There were no injuries reported.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Total damage to the apartment and its contents was estimated at approximately $25,000.
